Becky Davison
MA Communication Design
I am a very creative and artistic person, with an enthusiasm for all things pattern and colour. My practice lies in using a varied selection of media such as oil pastels, paints, pencils, and collage, all with a playful and quirky approach. I often work by hand, later scanning in my work to develop and enhance it further digitally. I have excellent software skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe, most predominately Photoshop.
With a flair for illustration, graphic design and typography, each piece of work I generate is considered and developed; constantly creating new, exciting designs that are striking and eye-catching. I am passionate about sustainability and designing to make a change. My work on this course varied from creating an educational activity booklet for children, a children’s storybook and a cooking book based upon family memories, all with innovation, action-based and auto-ethnographic methodology at the core.
These projects enabled me to expand my knowledge as a designer and branch out into other design fields like illustration and graphics, after previously studying a degree in Printed Textile Design. Completing this MA degree whilst working part-time and undertaking commissions has grown and adapted my efficient time management and organisational skills tremendously. The course has enabled me to recognise who I am as a designer as I pushed myself to understand where my skillset lies. I am looking to progress into a career in print, illustration or graphics.
