MA Communication Design
I am an award-winning designer with a multi-disciplinary skillset that includes editorial and book design, motion graphics, branding and type design. My practice focuses on the use of type to allow people and brands to communicate effectively with their audiences in an engaging way, as well as the design and creation of typefaces themselves. My MA has given me the opportunity to develop my design skills and creative direction while working on a variety of projects.
While exploring type-based motion graphics I was able to produce animated stickers to allow Frank’s Bar, a café-restaurant situated in the Norwich Lanes, to communicate with their social media audiences in a fun and engaging way, while also developing more experimental work that creates letters from animated shapes inspired by the Op Art movement of the 1960s.
Source, my Masters Project, is a multiple-weight typeface influenced by historical letterforms found in the Norfolk Record Office. The typeface is showcased in a specimen book that features two bound-in sections, multiple paperweights, a transparent cover wrap and exposed hand-stitched binding; highlighting my technical skill and attention to detail.
