Drew Hardman
MA Moving Image and Sound
My name is Drew Hardman, and I am an award-winning cinematographer and director graduating in my MA in Moving Image and Sound. For my MA project I have created and entire short horror/thriller film that I directed and shot along with my crew. The film is about the themes of Covid 19 and quarantine and reflects how I felt during lockdown on screen by showing the struggles the main character goes through.
The entire film is a fun and creepy horror film in disguise for a much deeper story where the enemies that are faceless killers are represented by Covid 19. The conflict to stay away from the killers is represented by social distancing, and her trying to break out of her apartment she is trapped in is our mental state during lockdown. I wanted the film to appeal to casual fans of horror on the base level and show a terrifying journey, while the hardcore fans can look deeper into the meanings and relate to the underlying message we went through during lockdown.
This was my first time creating my own film and directing and the learning experience was amazing. I have worked alongside many directors before on films being a DOP, but getting the hands-on experience was a huge learning curve. The film is still in development and will be complete soon and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
