Ernest Seah
As a multi-disciplinary award winning artist, I believe in constant experimentation and breaking traditions. I like combining the aesthetics and methodologies processes of diverse creative styles and methodologies into my art works. My artworks play around with positive and negative spaces and the aesthetics of bold and thin brush strokes and smudging styles of traditional Chinese and Japanese ink painting. During the various lockdowns of the year I also worked on abstract doodles using various unconventional art mediums like starch, coffee, tea, and even tar – a ‘make do and mend’ solution to the lack of access to art materials.
My current series is a social commentary on the physical and mental strength of mankind and the most important piece of clothing during the pandemic year – the face mask.
