Lucie Summers
My creative practice is ever evolving but is always deeply rooted in quilt making. My current fabric collage pieces explore relationships between the worn and weathered surfaces I find on my daily walks in and around the farm where I live. My collection of pre-worn and used textiles include pieces of my farmer husband’s work clothes.
I prefer to use fabrics with a history and embrace their rips and stains and stories of a previous life. I use these pieces together with fabrics dyed with plants and crops I gather from the hedgerows, meadows and fields surrounding the farmyard to create a circular process that knits together my work alongside my husband’s on the farm.
During my Master’s degree in Textile Design, I have been shortlisted for the Vlieseline Fine Art Textile Award in both 2019 and 2020.
