Iām a character artist who loves to make people laugh – usually culminating in stories. Stories that have a lot of cats.
I run a webcomic called PLUNDERCATS, a story about a clowder of cat crooks getting up to no end of trouble. This has been a great way to improve the speed in which I work – uploading every few weeks, working to a tight deadline. Throughout my course, I have sought to create a new series, which has culminated in Nekomancer – a series about a mage who can only summon and control cats.
The series is mixed media, using both 3D and 2D in order to make 3D rendered cats stand out from the 2D drawn cast. Iāve set out to create a series bible (a document detailing everything there is to know about the series) with the intent of pitching to potential clients.
Working with 3D is something Iām keen on too, having previously rigged 3D characters.
More recently, Iāve shifted my focus to utilising 3D to optimise my creative workflow, using Blender to convert 3D sets into 2D lineart for my comic. Taking this further, the 3D cats in Nekomancer are rigs made in Blender, where I then exported them as renders.
I work fast, and am always trying to push my work to the next level. Creating characters and bringing them to life has always been something I love to do, and my course has helped me push my work further.
