Marla DiPoto
MA Communication Design
I am a graphic designer who specializes in investigating fashion and beauty branding and marketing. Coming from an education in Fashion Merchandising, my MA degree has allowed me to hone my design skills and creative direction. My work aims to inspire consumers through fashion and beauty products and branding, whether that be through a sense of joy and humour, or through inspiring togetherness and optimism. This work has included a series of brand concepts, most of which have also been inspired by the pandemic’s effect on consumer attitudes toward fashion and accessories.
Three of these brand concepts are featured here. Firstly, Strangers emerged as a fashion and lifestyle brand concept which works to promote conversations with strangers through upcycled clothing. Kindred is similarly aimed at inspiring togetherness, but it is unique in its product assortment of sentimental matching charm jewellery. Finally, Soft Bro Club demonstrates my love for humour and represents an investigation of modern masculinity in which “gym bro” culture is subverted in a less traditionally masculine way.
Throughout these brand investigations and associated research, I have expanded my design expertise and experimented with both digital and physical media. This has included expansive work within the Adobe Creative Cloud which has resulted in the creation of a wide variety of assets from logos to garment flats, lookbooks, brand books, social media graphics and other marketing materials. Moving forward, I am eager to contribute this knowledge of graphic design and fashion and beauty branding to a full-time graphic design position.
