I am a fine art practitioner who creates art works based on my interest in the Kazakh national identity. My work incorporates the study of history, culture and politics within multiple frameworks such as ethno-symbolism and modernism.
In my most recent project, I examined the Soviet legacy and its impact within Kazakhstan through its architecture. I investigated architectural styles, specifically constructivism and functionalism because house planning in the USSR expressed the political will of the state, its economic conditions and the culture of its citizens.
I translate these issues into a multi-disciplinary practice combining painting, printmaking, sculpting, knitting and crochet.
