Vice Chancellor’s Commendation
I am an experimental video and sound artist inspired by constructivism, early experimental animation, with a D.I.Y aesthetic. My recent work has been an exploration of episodic memory and place, I created a series of 3 films which are expressions of my own past.
There is an emptiness to my work which I invite the viewer to inhabit, by giving the viewer time and space to reflect, imagine and empathise. I want the journey of the viewer to be one within reality, creating a fictional but terrestrial space for them to inhabit.
There is a strong improvisational element to my practice. I follow my instinct, building pieces depending on what looks or feels right at the time. There are similarities within my audio compositions, in which the use of effects to manipulate the sounds are used in a live sense, in real time. Imperfections and accidents are usually left in my work, these ways of working stemming from my punk ethos.
I am the founding member of TBA Artist Collective, exhibiting work at Nunns Yard, The Shoe Factory and St Margaret’s Church in Norwich and online over the last 2 years, along with a residency at Kurt Schwitters Merz Barn in Cumbria. My video work has been selected for MikroFaf D.I.Y festival in Belgrade (2019) and Experimental Superstars festival Novi Sad, Serbia (2020).
