As an Embroiderer I am always looking to find ways of engaging with occult and spiritual ideas, I use this as a way of introducing my audience to these themes and open their minds to new ideas. I have used my time at university to explore ways I can connect my practice to these topics of spirituality and the occult.
This has been through local natural dye practices, to creating talismans that work within a modern setting. I am driven by the idea of my physical action of stitch and craft as a way of channelling divine energies into the objects that I make. I have learned that I can create objects that hold these energies or channel them for the benefit of the user.
My practice celebrates the creation of handmade pieces and explores both historical and more contemporary techniques and materials, I often will ignore how these techniques should traditionally be used and will create my own processes and techniques within my craft. During my time at university my practice has been an amalgamation of stitch, craft, and the act of physical and mental rituals.
