For my Master’s Project, my work was inspired by the spiritual and dynamic elements of the book covers for 70s Sci-fi and Fantasy novels. Although these covers were created by a variety of artists, the underlying aesthetic qualities and tones that they present help to define the explosion of creativity that occurred during this period. As I am mainly a painter, I wished to try and capture this style that the 70s Pulp Revival had, within my own work, as I feel that this area is frequently overlooked.
By introducing viewers to this period though my work, I hope to spark curiosity in those who find this period interesting and engaging, as well as make the names of the fantastic artists who illustrated the book covers more well-known. Continuing with experiments from my previous modules, I also created a number of dioramas to explore the worlds and events typical of the Pulp Revival in a 3D landscape.
