Julia Fowler
MA Fine Art
I am an intuitive, instinctive and playful artist. I like to experiment with materials, with shape and form leading the way. I like themes within my work, but I prefer having no preconceived idea what the final outcome will be, letting things naturally evolve. Working with items until they are pleasing to the eye, then the fixing in place is a challenge, but one I relish.
I am passionate about nature and our planet, and this is a common theme for me. I use the obsolete, discarded and unused, bringing items together to create a new piece of value, interest and beauty. I try to make people appreciate how beautiful our planet is and hope they will want to look after it. I highlight the damage we are doing and ask people to think more. This practice is very relevant in this time, I believe it is recycling at its best.
I work across a variety of mediums and processes, mainly print and sculpture but also collage, photography, digital work and mixed media, as this fuels my playful side. I take inspiration from nature but also explore shape and form.
My strengths are my determination, intuition, problem solving, perfectionism, and my strong need to plan, explore and experiment all of which help me achieve work that I am proud of and excited by.
